The Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the most wonderful natural phenomenons of Europe. It is located in the South-Eastern Europe, at the juncture of Lika and Kordun, between the mountains of Mala Kapela and Lička Plješevica, next to the road connecting Zagreb and Dalmatia.
The total lake surface of 200 ha was remodeled into 16 step-like basins with free-flowing lakes. The lakes, divided into the upper and the lower ones, are named: Prošćansko Lake, Ciginovac, Okrugljak, Batinovac, Vir, Veliki and Mali Jovinovac (Veliko and Malo jezero) (Small and Large Lake), Galovac, Milino Lake, Gradinsko Lake, Veliki Burget, Kozjak, Milanovac, Kaluđerovac and Novakovića Boat. The main attraction at the Entrance 1 is a view onto the fall of the Plitvica brook, the 70 meter high Veliki slap (Large Downpour).
Creation of phytogenic travertine marble at the Plitvice Lakes is a natural and main phenomenon of the National Park and a pre-condition of the lakes existence.
The Plitvice Lakes National Park considers its main aim to teach about the harmony and inseparability of the natural system and maintenance of harmony between nature and humans, with a wish to secure protection of the fragile ecological balance of the lake bio-dynamic system.
